Hi. Sorry for the big bump, but since this is the Teams category I don't think anyone will be pissed off. Remember me, Atle? [GURU][Viking]? Been in the team now since S2 was released, but haven't been active at all the last two years. Was very active indeed in the demo days before the full license was released and we moved on to bigger stuff We had some great friendly races, allthough I never got really good. Moved to Oslo with my girlfriend and had no suitable computer to play on and even less a wheel. But now I'm back where I belong and have a pretty nice cockpit with G25 and Playseat evo up and running. Still missing the computer though (all I have beside my work laptop is a Macbook 13,3"), but I'm very tempted to buy one and hook it up to my TV and get back into the game.
Again, I know this bump is ugly, but I hope GURU is still active and that you have this thread on subscription Note my sig is the same as 3 years ago.
People here talk about how much money PD has and how many employees they have as a bad thing, as if defending Scavier and the gang. LFS is super great. GT5p is great. But different things still. Butter for bread, ketchup for.. well I don't eat ketchup really. It's been a couple of years since I last played LFS online, and it's a shame, but I've just not had the opportunity. So there might have been major updates (asides from the physics, which I know are updated but I already acknowledged the physics as top notch two years ago).
My view on things: GT5p has great graphics/sound and OK physics while LFS has OK graphics/sound and great physics. Simple as that. Someone above me mentioned combining the look and feel of GT with the physics of LFS, which would be epic perfection! Mastering a car in LFS and shaving off seconds of your laptimes is great fun with consistensy and the whole shabam, but I nearly got an orgasm today when I sat down in my cockpit right in front of my 40" LCD, turned up the stereo, revved the V8 behind my head and let loose the clutch of the F40 and all hell broke loose. The voice of satan's V8 roared through the room as smoke rised up behind me and I reached 240kph. Wheels locking as I brake and heel&toe my way in to the first apex of Suzuka and carefully slingshooting myself out of the corner. GT5p does not have perfect realism, but combine it with the look and sound of the cars and the realism is good enough to give a satisfactory driving experience.
I'll set me up a PC again and hook it up to the stereo/tv and switch between the two games whenever I feel like it. It's just a matter of taste. Some like only LFS, some only GT, I happen to like both very much (allthough very fresh to GT. Barely tried GT2, had GT5p for 4 days now) I would like better engine sound in LFS. Hearing the engine do it's job is important for making you feel like you're actually sitting in a car, and it enhances the impression of the car being some sort of a wild beast you have to tame and control through the corners.
Edit: Note that I started writing this before the post above me, but my brain stopped working and I saw a movie before finishing the post now. The guy above has some of the same points as me. FYI; GT5 will come out in 2009, aprx one year from now. GT5p costs about 50% of regular PS3 games, so PD makes a shitload of money and it's pocket litter for every working man. Everybody is happy. Except fanboys not wanting PD to make money, of course. Money to buy licenses, so we can race real cars on real tracks with reasonable physics.
Meh, I'll have to add another point. Why the flying f*ck must games be 100% realistic? Yes, LFS is a game and only that. A close to real-life one of course. But far from real life still, sitting in a GTR car blasting down a straight. Too many factors differ to be able to say "I race well in LFS so I can race a GTR car on track. No problem". Then it comes down to skill needed to race well in the games. Driving the F40 or the Ford GT LM "test car" (990kg/600+ hp) on pro settings with all aids off, including ABS, is not easy at all. It takes serious control of the wheel and throttle control. Is it the exact same behaviour as in a real car? Why should it be, unless you use the game for traning, in which case you would be a nutcase. Summum summarum: what makes racing games/sims fun is the skill it takes and the satisfaction of mastering it, and both LFS and GT5 provides that, but LFS provides the physics to a bigger degree, while GT5 tones it down but gives you a spectacle of sound and graphics instead. And it fullfills many childhood dreams of driving exotic cars which are recreated to the smallest detail, where LFS of course fails automatically because there is only one licensed car (no more than the F1 sauber yet?) Pick and choose! I want both. EOD.
I love the new sounds Kudos to Dave. Haven't played LFS for over a year since I've moved out from home and my DFP is left back there, but when I heard the new patch with new sounds was out I just had to try it, and I love them. The new sounds for the GTRs really make me feel like I'm driving a charged monster ready to explode and not to mention the LX4/6 and FZ5. I've always felt that the sound department is where LFS was lacking the most. Physics are superb.
Just a quick question though. I see some people mentioning exhaust volume. Is this a default setting in options which I'm just too blind to see, or is it a mod? I would love to increase the volume a little bit. Right now I've got echo a bit down and car sound maxed.
I think many people, including me, would really appreciate it if someone could upload the latest compatible version of the game for us to download and use with LFStweak. I've formatted a couple of times lately, so I don't have the Q .zip anymore
I don't know if you meant 15-21 or 15-19, but both are wrong if you ask me. It's OK just as it is. 15 and up to 19 or 21 are the years you change the most as a person. I don't want to compare myself today with the one I was when I was 15
I like the XR cars. Especially the XRR. But basically anything with an X and/or a F in it appeals to me, for some strange reason. Like the FOX and XFR to mention some
The XRR, in addition to looking awesome, is fast but still challenging and has a extreme power when turbocharge is timed correct. It's not as laggy as the XRT, but there are still some situations where it's helpful to keep an eye on the turbocharge
Before the last two patches (before BF1) I was a FO8-only driver, but now I'm kinda sick of FO8 and BF1. Only FOX as single-seater to me, when I need a break from the XRR. The Aston tracks are perfect for GTR's. Kyoto for Open-wheelers and South City for FWD, IMHO My fav. combos.
Well, I can confirm that Pitstopper works with the latest patch. I installed it right after T came out and I've done nothing but add version U on top, and it still works
MyBoss: The version currently available is not for the latest patch. You'll have to downgrade to version Q (I think) to use the Tweaker. That's what I found out after having struggled with your problem for an hour
To be honest, I don't want many retail "real" cars, like Ferrari and Skyline etc. A small part of them, like today, but not more I think it's part of LFS' charm to have mostly home-made cars, but still well-known chassis and engine which we can relate to real cars. It might work, but LFS is so damn good, I don't know if I'm willing to take the chance.
I agree that a S1 licensed player should be able to play S1 cars on S1 tracks. But only that. Allthough you probably feel cheated, I can't really sympatize with you. If you bought it only a month or two before S2's release, then you really can't blame anyway. Once the S2 demo was out (I reckon you mean that you bought S1 license before the first full S2 alpha version was released) people pretty much moved over to that, right? Not to be rude, but to me it doesn't make sense to buy the older game when the next one is right around the corner, and available for free play (demo) with the bigger part of the community.
But as said, the solution is easy. You've already bought half of it, haven't you? So just pay the remaining half and you'll have S2 It's the most bang-for-buck game out there. I would gladly pay $10 or $20 more for the game.
It's over now. Bo-Kristian won. Congrats to him. Hand-on-shoulder for [ITEK]Jamie who lost connection when he was in lead... and Maverick who got totaled pretty early. Good race everyone. Damn my leg hurts. Replay file is too large for upload.. I'm sure someone else will upload on another site and post the link here.
I have no trouble seeing the ~ symbol. If it's not perfectly shaped, you can still make out what sort of symbol it is. Unless you in Estonia have another symbol very much alike, and you can't tell the difference. I wouldn't know.
